Chavez's Foreknowledge of Own End
Published: 6 March 2013 By Abiodun Giwa
Did Hugo Chavez 's doctors in Cuba just dispatched him back to Venezuela without telling him he was to go home and die? The question is pertinent in view of the fact that cancer patients are often given the time of their demise in incurable cases.
There have been indications that Chavez may have been told about the seriousness of his case and possibility of a near end before his last trip to cuba.
"There is a risk in the process that you can't deny," he was reported to have said before he won reelection for another six year term last October. And he added that if something happened that disabled him in some way, his irrevocable opinion was that his supporters should elect Nicolas Maduro as the president.
Ross Dallen, head bond trader at Caracas Capital Market in an emailed response to questions published by Newsday December 9 2012 said, "He names Maduro as his successor. Not the word of a man that is sure he is going to live long or even be back for for the inauguration." In another report by AP, Chavez was reported to have acknowledged the seriousness of his health situation in a televised address when he said for the first time that he suffered complications. The report said further that several outside medical experts said that based on Chavez's account of his condition and his treatment so far, they doubted his cancer could be cured.
There was possibility that the fears he expressed to a point of kissing the crucifix and placing his reliance on God than medicals may have been dependent on his doctors' position about difficulties of his surviving the cancer.
Aides' Ploys End
Humans can cover up the true state of a man's health when he lies on a hospital bed still breathing. But when breathing seizes, there will be nothing to perpetually cover up again. On Tuesday afternoon, Chavez's aides discovered that his condition could no longer be wrapped under cover. The last ploy was that they became incredulous with an accusation that some historical enemies was behind Chavez's sickness. It was the time most observers knew that Chavez must either had died or about to die. It became apparent he had lost the struggle against cancer. Death announcement an hour later was a necessary follow up.
The last ploy in Cuba before he was brought home to die was a picture he took with his daughters reading newspapers while he lay on bed. It was manifest the picture was a lie to Venezuelans that Chavez was fine.
Chavez wasn't the only leader who had been sick and whose aides played games against his followers by covering up the truth of the leader's state of health. It happened in Nigeria, and it was why Global Pentorch published a piece liking the Venezuela's case with the Nigerian case in January.
