Nigeria: When absence of 'action' destroys marriage
April 29 2015 By Abi Giwa
A court in Abeokuta in Ogun State area of Nigeria has dissolved a marriage because of persistent complaints by the husband of a woman who said his wife has no vagina. Consequently, there is lack of action in the bedroom and the marriage is fruitless, The Sun newspapers online reported on Wednesday. "Whoa, and a man lives with a woman for three years, and he is unaware of her true biological formation," some readers wonder.
"My wife had been deceiving me. Since we got married, I have never seen her pass through menstruation. My wife does not have any vaginal opening. Anytime I ask her for sex, she would give an excuse to back up her refusal," Femi Olayiwola said about his wife of three years.
Femi said further that as husband and wife, himself and wife, Kemi, have been praying together for God to give them children. But added that his wife did not tell him anything about her condition before they got married, until February this year when she confessed to him that she had never experienced menstruation in her life.
Femi said he went to his wife's parents with his complain and her parents confirmed to him their daughter's condition, and that they said they thought he was aware of her condition before their marriage. The report said that Femi's wife, Kemi, was not in the court to defend herself or say whether or not it is true she no vagina and that there has been no action between her and Femi.
Observers are talking about the strength of love and trust Femi may have had for Kemi, by going into a marriage believing everything is well with Kemi without sampling, before signing the dotted lines. People are also wondering why the court's judge - name given as Akande - did not bother to invite Kemi to court for her to either reject or confirm Femi's allegations against her.
Some people think it is strange for a man to get into a marriage without knowing the biological condition of the woman. But some others say it is possible because in certain religions, sexual knowledge of a woman by the man before marriage is forbidden. Some people wonder whether that is still possible in these days that some churches have embraced same sex marriage or they are on the brink of embracing it. They say it is a rare form of affection in these days, for a man to agree to marry a woman, without having had carnal knowledge of her.
Yesterday - a reference to the past - people say it is possible for a marriage to be contracted without a man having known the woman intimately, but that for any man to embrace such in a time of evolving culture is like a Stone Age Man living in modern times. And so for three years, Femi and his wife, Kemi, as he had said in court, lived to gather without any action.
