People of Indian descent in Kenya, according to reports from Kenya, have received a seal of recognition in Kenya via Uhuru Kenyatta's proclamation on Friday, and the people of descent now represents Kenya's 44th tribe.
Awesome that people of Indian descent in Kenya, who hitherto have been sidelined, can now participate in political, economic and cultural development of the country, according to reports by Kenya Daily Nation online.
According to the report, Kenyatta acknowledges that the Kenyan Asian’s contribution to Kenya has its roots at the dawn of our Nation. The community that forms the new Kenyan tribe is reported to have petitioned Kenyatta in May 2017. Considering the petition, Kenyatta said that the petition merited action.
Therefore, Kenyatta's decision is viewed as a honor of the requests of the people of Indian descent. The recognition, under the presidential proclamation, comes just days of president Uhuru granting similar recognition to the members of the Makonde community, originally from Mozambique, who are now living in the Coastal region of Kenya, as the 43rd tribe.
With the recent collapse of the $12 million bridge shortly after commission, a development which observers see as a hole in Kenyatta's reelection bid, the Jubilee party is said to have found a new way to attract votes from the Asian community.
