The Struggle for Change and Against Change: Status Quo vs. New Order
November 14 2016 By Abiodun Giwa
Mr. Victor Amirati is a fire safety director in one of the sprawling edifices in Manhattan, New York City. He is a hard working gentle man, and anyone who has known him well, will not judge him with the color of his skin.
In a conversation with him on Sunday about the political development in the United States, he said God has saved America with the election of a new president, when the country is a little time away from the precipice.
He said further that he believes that the change that Americans seek has eventually come for America, but that there are still lots of work to be done.
According to Amirati, America's president-elect, Donald Trump, needs prayers to carry through with the chnage agenda and surmount the massive opposition expected from supporters of the status quo, almost with a reference to the nationwide protests following the election on Tuesday.
Seven days after the election, the protests are still in place and the type of statements that are coming from certain members of the public and a section of the media, point to the parts of the problems, that the president-elect would have to work to overcome, as time progresses.
I have just read an article "The View from Trump's Tower" credited to David Brooks of the New York Times and shared on the Facebook, where he ended his treatise that Trump would either have to resign or be impeached, because according to him in his article, he believes that Trump will do something that will make him either resign or be impeached. And then, according to several some conservative sites, Brooks went on a radio interview, where he added assassination to the lots of what may be in stock for Trump, and said that if there is anyone already plotting to do the assassination, such a person should speed up the plan to save the nation from Trump! Unbelievable.
Whatever was Brooks intention for his writing about resignation or impeachment and crowned it with possible assassination for a man who had just won an election and yet to be sworn into office, he is the only fellow who is in a position to explain it. But by just linking his soothsaying to what he called Trump's outbursts and nature cannot be sufficient reasons. The nation will have to wait and see whether Brooks prediction will come to pass. Observers are saying that Brooks may have begun his own social engineering for the beginning of hiw own populist movement.
One thing is clear the struggle for change and the efforts to kill the change by people who approve status quo against the new order has begun. At 70 years of age, observers think Trump should know better and that he has begun to show certain need for him to thread carefully and to ensure that all Americans feel a sense of belonging, create a firewall around himself, judging from his first appointments and pronouncements from his first major interview.
No one can beat the decisions that inform Trump's appointment of the Republican Party chairman, Reince Preibus, as his White House chief of staff. The same reason may explain why he has the publisher of Breibart on his side as an adviser for the culture war against the Liberal media. Judging by the New York Times report of Trump's first media interview and Trump's assertion that the Times has been unfair to him and the Times' defense of its editorial position, the battle against Trump and Trump's protection for the soul of the new presidency against culture warriors, has begun.
Asked if he will allow Hillary to be prosecuted, Trump said he cannot immediately said he will allow it, because he does need to be harsh on them because they are good people! Moreover he said his attention will be more on other vital issues relating to the people's welfare.
If Trump's White House is able be above board without allowing anything the media can use against it, nothing like impeachment or resignation can happen. But if he fails to be above board and does insist that his appointees do the same, Brooks may say in the future that he has said it. And as for assassination, observers are already praying for God's protection for Trump. The say uneasy lies the head that wears the crown to effect a change against the status quo's messengers.
Obviously, Brooks belongs to the maintenance of the status quo and refined attitude like you have in the old palaces, while Trump is the Field Marshall of the new order.
