Ukraine: New President Amid Crisis

Petro Poroshenko is Ukraine's new president and his election was followed by reports of seizure of an airport in Donetsk, East of the country. Who else would have seized an airport, if not separatists fighting to leave Ukraine? But the latest report is that forces loyal to Ukraine may have pushed out the separatists from the airport, but it is uncertain whether government forces are in control of the area still under gun fire.
However, Porochenko, a billionaire chocolate magnate has promised to mend ties with Russia, as well as his personal relationship with Vladimir Putin. Although a friend of European country, observers believe that he knows he has to play a diplomacy of survival between Russia and the EU, and that there is no other reason that demands shrewdness on his part than that his election as a president, which should have ushered in celebration has instead been welcomed with fears persisting in a divided nation.
