US Unemployment Slides Amid Anemic Labor Market
7 February 2014 By Abi Giwa

Unemployment in the United States has fallen to 6.6 percent with an addition of 113,000 jobs in the month of January 2014. The New York Times describes the employers added jobs as slower-than-expected and a sign that the labor market remains anemic.
Meanwhile, the Senate has rejected a request for an extension of unemployment benefit to those who have been unemployed for more than three months. President Barack Obama had asked for an extension. Both Republican and the Democratic Party are making the extension of the unemployment benefit a mid-term election issue, with the Democratic Party accusing the Republican Party of showing lack of interest to help unemployed Americans.
In another development, Speaker of the House of Representatives, John Boehner, has expressed pessimism over possibility for an immigration overhaul in 2014.
