Edward Snowden, former C.I.A worker and an American, on Sunday night revealed himself as the source of the information for the Guardian newspaper's scoop, detailing the American Government's telephone and internet surveillance system.
“If you realize that that’s the world you helped create and it is going to get worse with the next generation and the next generation and extend the capabilities of this architecture of oppression, you realize that you might be willing to accept any risks and it doesn’t matter what the outcome is,” Mr. Snowden said in his interview with the Guardian newspapers.
The development has put the Obama administration on the defensive, over whether or not it has been listening to Americans' conversations, in the bid to protect the country against terrorism.
Corrections: We discovered anomalies in our earlier caption and lead for the above report. We would like to correct the impression that EdwardSnowden was a Democratic voter may have created in the mind of readers. What he said was that he did not vote for Obama in 2008, but he admired his program. There are unconfirmed reports that he may have contributed some amount to the campaign of a third party.
