All eyes on Britain
June 27 2016 By Abiodun Giwa
"I don't watch the news, not intentionally. If I hear something, it is because I hear. I cannot comment on something I know nothing about. Whatever the situation in Britain, I think It will be resolved quickly. And I hope nobody is dead or dying."
These are the words of Wendall Butler, a resident of Montclair in New Jersey, United States. Unlike the informed and people who read the news, there are many people like Wendall Butler, who don't know about the referendum in Britain and the decision of Britons through the referendum to exit the European Union.
Unlike the impression being created by a section of the media that has equated the referendum in Britain to chaos, the referendum is nothing near chaos in definition and reality. The referendum represents the people's voice and the people of Britain's decision is for the country to exit the EU. Whatever the repercussion, positive or negative, of the Britons' votes for their country to exit the EU, should not stand between realizing their objective. Observers say that scaling back Britons'democratic call on their leaders to get the country out of the EU may result in chaos. .
There may be void at the top of the country's leadership, the Labour Party may split into camps, Scotland leaders may be brimming stones and hell fire and the conservative party may be in turmoil as reported in the news, and the banks and the markets may be uncertain of tomorrow, David Cameron has spoken that the will of the British people is an instruction that must be delivered.
Over 70 percent on British voters reportedly voted in the referendum as citizens of Britain, irrespective of areas residence of voters. Scotland residents voted in the referendum as citizens of Britain and for the liberals around the world to want to use Scotland to scuttle the decision of the ordinary people of Britain, because the referendum results fails to go the way of the elites and the politicians in the cities.
Cameron has announced his decision to step down as prime minister, because the result of the referendum represents a vote of no confidence in him, having campaigned vigorously against the exit. The expectation of observers is that many other politicians like Cameron, who may have lost the referendum in their constituencies to remain in the EU should do like Cameron, step down.
Therefore, many people think it will take sometime for the political upheaval caused by the referendum's results to clear, for the country set sailing again. Many people are saying that the referendum's result for Britain to exit the EU represents a big change against the status quo and that that of wind of change may reverberate in other parts of the world, where leaders feel they can continue to enslave their people, who have been agitating for change and freedom.
Rather than use force or coercion to deny people's demand, referendum is the best choice to test the water, whenever there is uncertainty about the people's choice on a serious subject of deciding their destiny.
It is especially good to notice that the Britain's referendum's result came on the trail of the U.S. Supreme Court's tie on the issue of President Barack Obama's Immigration Program, which said that the White House could not usurp the authority of the Congress in the writing of laws. It is about democracy as the people's voice and the need to adhere to the separation of powers between the executive arm and other arms of government, as enshrined in the Constitution, whether written or not.
