Tokyo Olympics: United States leads the Medals table

The United States has shot to the lead of the official count on the medals table in the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo, the Olympic Games Tokyo 2021 medals table shows. The table shows 39 Gold, 41 Silver, and 33 Bronze for the U.S, 38 Gold, 32 Silver, 18 Bronze for China, 27 Gold, 14 Silver, and 17 Bronze for Japan.
The U.S. has 113 medals overall compared to China and Japan, with 88 and 58 awards, respectively. China has dropped to the second position on the medal table from the number one position it has been before today.
The official medal table's caption has a labeling mistake as the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, but the dates on the table, July 23, 2021 - August 8, 2021, help ensure the correction.
