Assad in fools' paradise
October 6 2015. By Abi Giwa
Pride is often said to come before a fall, just exactly what Bashir Al-Assad, the strongman of Syria, exhibited in his statement few days ago. According to a news report in the BBC, Assad said that if the coalition of Syria, Russia, Iran and Iraq fails to win the war in which his country, Syria, is currently engulfed, the entire Arab region is headed toward total destruction.
Before going into the archives about Syria, recent events about men who lacked power, but thought they had it, and exhibited useless bravado before their disgraceful fall, are enough to show that Assad is in fool hardiness. Has Assad quickly forgotten about Libya's Muammar Gaddaffi and Iraq's Saddam Hussein?
Hussein's came first. He had asked the Americans and the allied forces to come and face humiliation in Iraq. When he talked, the world thought that Iraq had certain invisible military power it would use to disgrace the Americans and the allied forces. But no sooner that the Americans and the allied marched on Iraq that Hussein went underground.
Many people had thought that Hussein could have led his forces against the invaders, since he had told the world the invaders were coming to be disgraced. While he sought a place to hide away from artilleries and the massive bombings from the invaders, he let poorly armed soldiers to face the consequences of his fool hardiness.
Many people had thought that Hussein would use the politics of love for his country to stop the invaders from coming in to destroy him and the country along with innocent Iraques. But he was so proud and condescending. The consequence for him was that he ended in a hangman's noose. The world watched with unbelief, when Hussein was fished out from a spider's hole. Of course, the invaders had no hand in his final show, since his own people tried him and found guilty.
Libya's Gaddaffi had on his own part mistaken excessive oil income to be equivalent to military wares. He told the world that Libya would come out victorious against the opposition. The allied forces came in support of the opposition, showing Libya's forces onslaught against powerless bunch, who had accused him of suppression and that they wanted democracy.
The tussle between Gaddaffi and the opposition in his country may have been over the oil money, which belong to all Libyans, but which Gadaafi seemed to have turned into his family's inheritance. He had bravado and lacking in every sense of diplomacy. His past sins and lack of remorse may have propelled the invaders' furious bombings, which got him out of his hiding place, and the invaders followed his convoy with continued bombings.
Gaddaffi ran out of his car; hid under a culvert and ran still like a rat seeking a safe place to hide, before the gun shot of his country man ended his life. He was killed like a dog on the street. What is there in the matter between Assad and the allied forces and the opposition in his Syria that has made him to think that without the coalition of Syria, Iran, Iraq and Russia winning, the region would be destroyed?
Hasn't Russia continued its business after the fall of Hussein and Gaddaffi? Why does Assad think the coalition he has mentioned that his country belongs can save him? Those guys who call themselves leaders of their countries and their inability to know when to step aside in diplomacy shows that they don't love their countries and their people. They just want the power and to remain in power for the power's sake.
