The United States has formally declared Coronavirus as a public health emergency. "Today, President Trump took decisive action to stop the spread of Coronavirus in the United states, Secretary of Health and Human services,Alex Azar, said in a statement on Friday.
Avar added that since taking office, the president has been clear that his top priority has been safety of the American people.
Decision By the U.S. making Coronavirus a public health emergency came immediately after the World Health Organization, WHO, had declared Coronavirus public health emergency, in order to stop the spread to other countries with weaker health systems.
Despite the WHO's decision, the WHO chief, Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, hailed the extraordinary measures the Chinese government had taken in tackling the virus from spreading and said that there was no reason to limit trade or travel to China.
With the declaration of Coronavirus as public health emergency, any American citizen who had stayed in the Hubei province in China for the last 14 days would be subjected to 14 days of mandatory quarantine, beginning Sunday,February 2, from 5 p.m, to ensure they have medical care and health screening. He further siad that any U.S. citizen returning to the U.S who has been in the rest of mainland China within the previous 14 days will undergo proactive health screening at a select number of ports of entry and up to 14 days of mentioned quarantine to ensure they have not contracted the virus and don't pose a health risk.
Avars' statement said that the action by the U.S. compliments the works of China and the WHO to contain the Coronavirus outbreak in China. Earlier, the government had advised U.S. citizens with travel plans to China to reconsider rescheduling such travels before the declaration of the virus as a public health emergency, making Coronavirus join the Swine Flu, Polio, Zika and Ebola on the list of public health emergency.
The latest development about the health scare from Coronavirus is a reminder that Wuhan, the center of Coronavirus outbreak, is locate in the Hubei province, and that 172 people have died from contracting Coronavirus in the province alone from a population of 60 million people. Apparently, China has since silently declared Coronavirus a public health emergency, followed by the WHO and the U.S. Would other countries around the world do the same?
