What Does Rand Paul Want From Wholesale Repeal of Obamacare?
July 13 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky has never hidden his disdain or dislike for the Affordable Care Act, (ACC), otherwise called Obamacare. He wants the ACC to be completely scrapped and be replaced with something else. Something new without any infusion from Obamacare.
Observers, who have been following the argument over the healthcare for the last seven months, know what Paul wants from the beginning about seven months ago, that he wants Obamacare killed for a new healthcare program for Americans.
Senator Paul has not changed his position on the issue. The problem appears to be his rigidness. He is saying that he does not want infusion of any provision from the Obamacare retained in any new healthcare program being considered by his colleagues in the Republican Party.
Currently, the effort of Senator Paul's colleagues in the Republican Party to get solution to the stalemate over their differences on what they want in the new healthcare program seems to be still facing opposition from Senator Paul.
If Paul wants a new healthcare program that does not have infusion of any part of Obamacare, why can't he fashion out one and convince his colleagues to support it than standing between solution to the healthcare program impasse and mouthing a need for a complete health care program without infusion from Obamacare? And if Senator Paul cannot fashion one that his colleagues can all embrace, why can't he support efforts to get a new healthcare bill with infusion from Obamacare, if the infusion from Obamacare is in in the interest of the American people?
What is the gain of repealing Obamacare wholesale, if there are provisions in the Obamacare, which are good for Americans, despite the failings in some parts of the program?
Watching Senator Paul insisting on complete repeal of Obamacare, when the party seems unable to do that, to fashion a new health care bill without infusion from Obamacare, is like he does not know that his position is not only hurtful to Obamacare architects, he is also hurting his own party and the new president - who needs to show Americans that he is working without a rigid adherence to party, but respect for the needs of Americans, without party's interest over riding the people's interest.
