America's Political Confusion
June 19 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
America prides itself as number one democratic country in the world, and does not shy away from importing or encouraging other countries to emulate it. But from hindsight, if political events in America today should happen in any other country without the culture that America has developed over the years, the result would be trouble.
Still, though it is America with the culture of debating and debating, until a solution seems possible, but there is tendency toward trouble here. The world already heard about gun shots targeted at law makers practising for baseball competition, and how the shooter asked one of the Congressmen about whether men on the pitch were republicans or Democrats, before he did the unthinkable.
The Congressman, the chief whip for the Republican Party, shot at the baseball practise, is till in the hospital. The role of a majority chief is important at ensuring that his party's programs are pushed through and assured desirable party successes. They have called for peace, but that peace seems to be eluding both parties.
Many of them don't seem to understand that there is no comparison between the shooting of Senator Gabrielle Gifford and that of Steve Scalise, because of the murderous question, which the shooter asked before he began his shootings of the Republicans. It was the shooting of the Republicans.
Aside from the shooting of the Republicans, there was the Shakespeare play of Julius Caesar with the assassination President Donald Trump's look alike. My 15 years old daughter asked about hell that is happening here, and that why can't Shakespeare company use another personality to represent Julius Caesar, and why Trump?
Politicians in the opposition work against Trump, just as their counterparts did against the former president barack Obama. The opposition hide nothing from the beginning that as opposition, it will give the same dose of obstruction to Trump, as the Republicans, during the Obama era. And trump too is undoing everything Obama could point to as legacy.
There is a struggle ongoing over Obamacare. The Obama's Cuba policy has gone of of the window like many others thrown out with executive orders. There is also a fight from the opposition to undo the Trump's presidency. The Liberal media is not insulated from this dirty .fight. The media has promised from the beginning of the fight that there would be leaks and Trump would be the worst for it. He has called the media fake news!
The world watched how Trump won the presidential election, first capturing his party's nomination as a fighter, before he also as a fighter sent Hillary Clinton home. The world knew about the Russians hacking of the Democratic Party and Wikileaks' publications before the election and alleged interference.
Did the Trump campaign conspired with the Russians? The FBI has not produced any evidence six months after the beginning of its investigation. The investigation took a new turn with the Trump firing of James Comey, the FBI director Comey said that Trump fired him with intent to cover up the Russian investigation.
Trump said he did not fire Comey to cover up the Russian investigation, and that the deputy attorney general in the Department of Justice recommended Comey for dismissal without any request from him and that he did what the deputy attorney general asked for. Ironically, the same deputy attorney general was the officer Comey prompted by a leak to appoint Robert Mueller as special counsel, taking the Russian investigation away from the FBI.
News reports said that Mueller is investigating Trump for obstruction of justice for Trump's asking Comey to let General Michael Flynn go. Trump said that he did not fire Comey for his refusal to let Flynn go, but that he followed the recommendation of the deputy attorney general and the same deputy attorney general is asking Mueller to investigate him for firing comey as obstruction, when in fact the attorney general recommended the Comey's sack.
Everyday, Americans watch the cable news channels, some seeking for Trumps head, other saying the Democrats and the Liberals want Trump out at all cost, as if it is the mandate to them from voters. Last week,, the deputy attorney general answer questions from the senate judiciary committee, and he said it is possible for him to be fired. But that he is the only officer who can fire Mueller, and that if the president asks him to it for no justifiable reason, he will not.
But how is the deputy attorney general certain he is already one foot in and one foot out of office, for the confusion he has created for the recommendation for Comey's sack? Debaters on various television stations agree that if Trump fires the deputy attorney general, he is constitutionally empowered to appoint another attorney general to oversee Mueller's Russian investigations.
Amid the crucible confusion that America's politics has entered into, Trump said he has nothing to hide and that he is fighting off investigations and the leaks because they are undermining his effort to govern. But the Democrats and the Liberal disagree with him. However, on Monday morning, Alan Dershowitz, professor emeritus of Harvard Law School said what many Americans would like to hear.
He advises Trump against firing Mueller. He said that he does not yet see any available information that will jeopardize Trump's presidency. Though he said some guys around Trump may fall, but that Trump will still have the power to pardon them. He said on CNN, according to the Washington Examiner, that the president of the United States should not be subject to criminal prosecution for merely exercising his constitutional authority.
"In the absence of any statute to the contrary, the president has the authority fire the director of the FBI, and the president has the power to tell the director of the FBI who to investigate, who not to investigate," he added. Alan said it is the law, and said that it needs be changed, to avoid the president having so much sweeping powers.
Dershowitz decries widening of investigations against the Clintons based on Comey's mention of Loretta Lynch at a hearing that Lynch wanted him to call Clinton's investigation 'matter' and not 'investigation', and that widening of Trump's investigation after months of no evidence is political.
