Akeem Adams, a Trinidadian soccer player with Ferencvarosi Torna Club, a Hungarian first division team, has his leg amputated on Monday, marking an end to a rosy soccer career. The player's trouble began when he suffered a heart attack about one and a half week ago and was rushed to the hospital in Budapest for medical attention.
It was discovered in the hospital he had suffered a collapse in circulation in what was termed necrosis in medical terms and he needed a life saving surgery.
In a release on Ferencvarosi's website on Monday, "Akeem Adams, 22 years old player of Ferencvarosi Torna Club went through a life saving surgery this night, during which his lower left limb has been amputated due to the mortification of limb muscles."
According to a release by the Trinidad Football Association and published by Trinidad Express newspapers, necrosis is a form of cell injury capable of causing premature death of cells in living tissues.
Following the heart attack, Adam was listed in critical condition. Although, the surgery was described as successful, the players circulation stabilized, but his condition remains critical and life threatening.
The public is urged to remember Akeem and his family in prayers.
