ASUU Refuses to Bow

Members of the Association of the Nigerian university Lecturers, ASUU, have refused to return to classes against government's directive that expired 9 December.
The Sun News reported a case at the University of Benin, where an attempt by the law department to resume lectures was aborted by ASUU.
The Nigerian government had changed the date of its ultimatum to the striking university lecturers to return to work December 9 from December 4, as a respect for Professor Festus Iyayi's funeral, whose burial program began December 5 and was interned at the weekend.
News reports by Nigerian newspapers had confirmed an account containing N200b with the Central Bank for the infrastructural works in the nation's public universities, as part of an agreement said have been reached with ASUU, in one of their several meetings.
