Britain: Seven People Die In Renewed Terror Attack
June 4 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
Seven people were killed by terrorists in central London on Saturday night in a renewed terror attack, and three suspected terrorists killed by police, reports say.
The attackers in central London on Saturday reportedly wore fake suicide vests, and they used a van and knives as weapons.
The van mowed down pedestrians on the sidewalk and men jumped out of the car dipping knives into victims on the street, before they ran into bars and pubs in a nearby borough market, with frenzy to kill.
The Daily Mail online reported a man who said he threw chairs and bottles to ward off the attackers and that he saw the attackers cut a girl 15 times with a kitchen knife, and shouted "This is for Allah. And that the man helped police in trailing the attackers, who were later shot dead.
Blow by blow reports by the BBC show that speeding van hit pedestrians, before suspects jumped out and stabbed members of public and police officer, police say the suspects wore hoax explosive vests, at least 30 people were taken to hospital, and others treated at the scene. London Bridge railway station closed and the Transport police say London Bridge will stay shut overnight.
The latest attack in London came on the heel of an earlier attack that claimed 22 lives and wounded scores in Manchester less than a fortnight. The renewed terror attack confirms an earlier fear of an imminent attack following investigations into the Manchester's killings. Intelligence reports had said there was an imminent attack and the terror alarm was raised from severe to critical, and later lowered back to severe, within one week.
London Mayor Sadiq Khan is reported to be furious and appalled. He says, "There aren't words to describe the grief and anger our city is feeling. I'm appalled and furious that these cowardly terrorists deliberately targeted innocent Londoners and visitors enjoying their Saturday night. I condemn unequivocally these terrorists in the strongest possible terms. They are evil cowards and London will never be cowed. We will never let them win."
Theresa May said enough is enough. Meanwhile, the Conservative Party has confirmed it has suspended its national general election campaigning today. It says the decision will be reviewed during the day, according to the BBC.
