Comey's Metamorphosis
March 20 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
Have you heard about James Comey's testament to the United States' Congress about Russia, Trump, Clinton and his investigation into whether a crime may have been committed or not?
The FBI director said that he cannot give time frame to when the FBI will complete investigation into whether or not there was conspiracy between the Trump Campaign and Russia.
But when Comey's official role as the head of the FBI during the last election and how his official role booby trapped Hillary Clinton election chances, one will wonder whether there is no Chameleonic instances here about Comey's role.
Note that there are two major reasons people have adduced for Clinton's loss in the last election. The first was Comey's dramatic role and the second was the Russian hacking of the Democratic Party's computers and the publication of the materials from the hacking by Wikileaks. Majority members of the Democratic Party felt that the nature of Comey's investigation of Clinton and his choice of times that he made them public were questionable, and that he might have aimed them at ensuring Clinton's loss. In fact Comey was derided more by Democratic Party members, in comparison to their criticism of Vladimir Putin's role, immediately after the election.
Suddenly, the Democrats seem to have forgotten about Comey's role and their battle and media's attention have turned into Russia and whether there was any connection between Russia and Trump's Campaign, allowing Comey's to step into a new metamorphosis role. The Democrats' game plan looks like they are looking for something to undermine Trump, since there is nothing criminal that will undermine Trump about Comey's role in Clinton's loss.
Comey has turned from Clinton's nemesis to telling the public that Putin hated Mrs. Clinton so much that he had a preference for her rival. Of course, Comey loves Mrs. Clinton so much, but he does not have preference for her rival. Though his role during the elections, according to angry Democrats, say otherwise. Is Comey's statement about Putin's hatred for Clinton and preference for her rival an attempt to safe himself from his own role in the dashing of Clinton and women's stride for the Oval office?
The most important question Comey's current statement should be attracting is whether Comey should be the head of an organization about how a foreign government was alleged to have tried to interfere with the U.S. election, given the fact that Comey himself played a role, which many Democrats have described as adversary. Shouldn't the Congress give Comey a timeline to complete the investigation into alleged Russian interference in the elections?
Even with Comey's testament to the Congress, there is no confirmation of any criminality by any member of the Trump Campaign in Russia's act of interference in the election. Comey is also not sure whether or not the FBI will come up with anything tangible. According to the BBC, Comey said that the investigation is very complex and refused to give a timetable for its completion.
