Coronavirus: Time to call upon the arms of God
March 20, 2020 By Abiodun Giwa
"No one has seen anything like this before," has become a common refrain that major public officers in the United States and around the world make about Coronavirus attack on humanity. Isn’t it true? Can anyone ever imagine believers of all faiths abandoning places of worship and cringing in adherence to government’s regulations and fears of the unknown? Does this mean that Coronavirus also defies prayers?
I believe that it is time to apply the brakes, look at the rear mirror and see what is pursuing us and how we all have been caught napping forgetting there is a God in the heaven that we can call upon in the battle against Coronavirus. As an unseen enemy, is Coronavirus not in the category of enemies that believers run to God for cover when fate throws a misfortune beyond them on their paths?
President Donald Trump was almost disregarded or overtly criticized when he said in one of his outings that Americans needed to pray and that with prayers Americans would overcome the evil that has been tagged by him and others as an unseen enemy. Does the Christian Bible not say work and pray is hallmark for winners? That faith without work is incomplete and that work without faith cannot stand the test of time?
Shouldn't it be applicable that as government officials are seen working from morning to night every day fully engaged in the battle against this unseen enemy that the citizens too should be seen engaged in prayers to help in defeating the enemy? Aren’t we scared by news reports about the numbers of Coronavirus' casualties in China and the increase of the number death in Italy? Is it only in China and Italy the numbers have hit the thousands?
What about Iran where the number has gone over the thousand mark? Is the number of casualties not also climbing in Spain? Is the number not climbing everywhere and the media is now engaged in tabulating the presence of Coronavirus around the world, the number of people that have contracted the virus around the world on daily basis and the number of people the virus has killed, like when they tabulate the presidential election results? Is an evil that is beyond ordinary not testing the faith of all believers?
Hasn’t Coronavirus become like Grendel in Beowulf, whose aim is to destroy the culture of the people for jealousy over their belief and prayers to God? The question is rational in the sense that believers in fears of the unknown have also abandoned their places of worship in obedience to government regulations that gathering above 50 people be avoided. A photo in the social media shows a large congregation of worshipers in a place of worship before Coronavirus and the lean number of congregants during the Coronavirus pandemic. Some observers have attributed this development to the social distancing being employed against Coronavirus and that the social distancing tactics has no place in the science e of care. The science of care recommends people cobble together to fight a common enemy and not distance themselves from one another. With the science of social distancing, how do we expect hospital workers to treat their patients, because we fear to contract a virus and the fear of death?
From the way Coronavirus has been described as something no one has ever seen before and the unseen enemy, it is nothing short of satanic a personality that requires the confrontation of all believers of faith in thunderous prayers to destroy its power. This war from an unseen enemy cannot be won by leaving it to government officials and science alone. This enemy needs to be confronted with the type of fire of prayers that Satan describes as the activities in heaven and the reason it cannot return to heaven to continue its rebellion against God.
Let us return into the reliance on the arm of God and not rely on the arms of men alone. Let us remember the words of Esther to Mordecai in the Christian scripture when she enlisted Mordecai to call upon all their people to go into prayers and fasting against an evil plan to destroy them with readiness to die in reliance on the arms of God and that without calling upon God she was helpless. People of all faith needs to return to prayers in various places of worship unaffected by the regulations of more than 50 people in a gathering and without fears of the unknown. It is time for all believers to eschew fears that gathering to call on God against Coronavirus or the devil that is threatening to destroy humanity can lead to contracting the virus.
The name of God and the houses of worship have always been sanctuaries for the helpless anytime that evil beckons or envelopes. It was yesterday. It should be today and tomorrow. Let God be in the lead of the war to save humanity from Coronavirus. Presidents of United States of America, Canada, Spain, Italy, United Kingdom are trying their best to stop Coronavirus from ravaging humanity. As political political leaders, they have been thrown into sleepless nights in search of seemingly unattainable solution against Coronavirus. They also need God’s intervention.
And if governments insist on not allowing gathering of large crowds in enforcement of the regulation, let us all begin to raise voices of thunderous prayers for the destruction of Coronavirus from our homes.
