Corruption Emeritus

For the newly elected president of El-Salvador, Sanchez Ceren, the fight against corruption is his first priority before governing for everybody. The reason is that if he doesn't fight corruption, the Augean Stable may fight and get rid of him.
Ceren has lessons readily from Spain; United States and Qatar. Reports say that unpopularity from corruption has led to the abdication of King Juan Carlos after 40 years in office. In the United States, the secretary of the Veteran Affairs Department, Eric Shinseki, resigned unceremoniously and inflicted unavoidable on President Barack Obama who had wanted him remain in office. King Corruption has also forced organizers of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar to schedule a meeting with FIFA over calls to take away to hosting from the Gulf State for allegations of payment of million of dollars for officials.
In developed countries, it is abdication when a king quits quits and it is resignation when a government official quits. According to the BBC, King Carlos, 75, is quitting to allow younger generation a chance in managing Spain. But the truth behind King Carlos' decision, report says, is that the king's reputation has been tarnished by a long running corruption investigation into business dealings of his daughter and husband. Additionally, the king has lost vital support for embarking on a lavish elephant hunting voyage to Botswana in the middle of Spain's financial crisis.
Just last week, Eric Shinseki tendered a resignation from the office of the secretary for Veteran Affairs in the US over mismanagement scandals. President Obama did not want him to go, but Shinseki was forced out by a cloud of scandals that ran for weeks. Some reports said he was a fall guy, meaning the corruption may already had its way among officials yet unknown.
Corruption is seeking to poison football management too, as Qatar hosting of the World Cup in 2022 is being question over claim of payment running to millions of pound to officials who are in support of the country's successful bid. FIFA says that if it establishes that money has indeed changed hands, Qatar stands the of losing the hosting right of 2022 football fiesta.
News report from Brazil shows that a Supreme Court Justice, Judge Joaquim Barbosa, who has been presiding over monumental corruption trial and conviction of about two dozens politicians has stepped down. The convictions popularized his name among the populace, but reviled among Workers' Party sympathizers, whose majority members are in majority among the convicts.
Also in New York, a state senator, Malcolm Smith, is heading to trial. According to the Daily News, Smith whose eyes was first set for the Gracie Manson is headed to the Big House if found guilty of charges of bribery and extortion. Smith (a Democrat) has been accused of paying off some Republican bigwigs to allow him a slot as a mayoral candidtate on their party's platform.
Would anyone blame Ceren for choosing the fight against corruption as his first mandate in office in the midst of what corruption is doing to government officials all over the world? He may at the end of his term reduce corruption and violence in his country, but for now it is corruption emeritus.
