Venezuela defeated Argentina in the FIBA America's championship on Saturday, with 76-71 win. The victorious Venezuelans had earlier vanquished favorite Canada in the semi finals on Friday.
It is the first time that Venezuela has won the FIBA Americas title, having bagged the silver and bronze medals in 1992 and 2005 respectively.
Earlier in the day, Canada had defeated Mexico and clinched the bronze, following Mexico's fall 86-87
According to the 1-2 ScoresWay, Point guard man Heissler Guillent's 15 points paved the way for the victorious Venezuelans' victory. His effort was reinforced through team mate John Cox's points and consolidated by Windi Graterol's 11?points.
Efforts by Argentina's Andre Nocioni - former Chicago Bulls, Sacramento Kings and Philadelphia 76ers forward - game-high 21 points was not enough to stop the Venezuelans and give Argentina the coveted lead.
The Venezuelans outscored their opponents 27-19 in the final quarter.
