God, Nigerian politicians and Nigerians
February 26 2018 By Abiodun Giwa
Nigerians must disregard in totality politicians bringing the name of God into the dirty pool of the Nigeria's politics. This is in reference to Tunde Bakare and Oby Ezekwesili, who have both brought the name of God into the dark recess of the country's politics.
Bakare, leader of the Latter Rain Church, had said that God told him in a vision to vie for the country's number one position, while Ezekwesili said that God will breath into her Red Movement Card for whatever her aims.
Bakare was a running mate candidate Muhammed Buhari's unsuccessful run for president in 2011. Buhari later won the presidential election without Bakare. Today, the media has begun addressing Bakare as pastor cum politician. If Bakare had any vision at all, he should have known that that vision belongs to him and not to Nigerians. Religion is a private affair.
As a pastor he is free to address his congregation, but he should done everything humanly possible not allow information about his vision and his personal aspiration out to Nigerians. That he allowed it was a sign of a personal ambition and using the pulpit to push the agenda and deliberately using the name of God for maximum impact.
If Bakare has an ambition, he is free like any other Nigerian to pursue the ambition, but he should not bring the name of God into the disrepute that Nigeria's politics cannot be insulated. Samuel was a Prophet in Israel, he never said he saw a vision that God asked him to be a king or vie for the position of king in Israel. When the Israelis demanded for a king because the nations around them had kings, he told the Israelis that the position of a king is that of an oppressor and that the king will turn them into hewers of wood and fetchers of water. Samuel did not offer himself to be king. When King Saul that he approved for Israel veered off the path of God, he told Saul exactly what happened and he helped David to become king by anointing David without Saul's knowledge of events.
Bakare would want Nigerians to think of him as a prophet more respectable than Samuel. Yet, Nigerians predicaments have multiplied years over years with Bakare prophesying against Olusegun Obasanjo and yet Ibrahim Babangida and co were able to manipulate the system and made Obasanjo president from the prison, where Sanni Abacha had placed him to rot. What did Obasanjo asked Nigerians? To allow him a third term after he had taken Nigeria into a direction now requiring God's intervention to save the country.

Undoubtedly, Nigeria requires God's intervention to be able to return to the path of respect, where it should be, from the current path of political and economic degradation. But not by any Nigerian telling Nigerians that God has sent him or her. Ezekwesili's Red Card Movement belongs to Ezekwesili and her sponsors in or outside the country, if she has sponsors.
But as a former education minister under Obasanjo's unholy administration, it was insulting to Nigerians for her to use the name of God like she did in an interview with the Sun that God will breath on her Red Card, meaning if Nigerians disregard her red card.
Ezekwesili knows the country where she is talking about fermenting a revolution and the consequence of walking that path. Why cannot she do it without bringing the name of God into it? Is Nigeria's politics so holy to bring the name of God into?
Just as Bakare and Ezekwisili mentioned God, one Alani Bankole of the Action Democratic Party, ADP, talked about a new commandment against God's Ten commandments that would insulate Nigerians over the age of 60 from Aso Rock and the Governors. mansions. Looking like senior politicians have finished bilking Nigeria, and some of them have plans to make it the turn of their children to bilk the nation.
Let not Donald Duke and Akinwumi Adesina fall for the whims of former military generals planning to use either them as tools to prolong Nigeria's in the wilderness. If any of these guys has a plan to run for president, let him package and present himself to Nigerians, without being a tool of imposition in the hands of discredited former army officers.
