Happiness, Flight From Danger and Unexpected Death
October 3 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
No one wants to die by gun or bomb. Yet, people die by gun and bomb. It is the thought people have all the time there is a news of innocent people gunned down, unaware before that moment that death is on the way and the form of death they don't know.
Concert is a place for joy and reverie and not a venue where people are naturally transported to the morgue. But recent events seem to have changed all that. First in Orlando with 49 lives. Followed by Manchester with 22 lives and on Monday by 59 lives in Las vegas.
Agents of evil have turned concerts into ground of death. It is a reality that death is certain. What is uncertain is how it will come. Because death does not make announcement about how and when it will come. Just as untimely death or death by any form of accident is regarded as evil and unwanted, its agents also don't make announcement of their evil plans, to forstal the hands of the law against them and save innocent souls.
If death makes announcements, many good or even bad souls would have been saved from untimely death. Concert would not have been allowed to be turned into the house of death. Therefore, we all live in ignorance of the evil. It was why Oedipus said in 'Oedipus the King' by Sophocles that let no man claim happiness until he is dead and aware that the end is not evil. He was happy, wanted to avoid the evil of political powerlessness, but met with unexpected sorrowful end.
Oedipus, a popular king suddenly found that a land he had helped into victory against an evil had fallen back into the hand of another evil. His own handling of the crisis led to a discovery of what would have best been left in the world of secrecy - that he had married his own mother and had kids by her!
Oedipus first plucked his own eyes before death came. It is about the end, one's end, which no one can fathom. He died an unhappy man, against all wishes that he may have harbored about a happy end. Imagine the state of mind of the victims at the Las Vegas concert killing before they heard the sound of the first gun shot. Imagine how the joy would have quickly turned into nightmare amid flight for safety. Safety for some, who may have been lucky to be alive, and death for the unfortunate 59.
The best way to safety against gun incident, as taught, is to lie down on the ground. But lying down on the ground became almost immediate expressway for many people who did in Vegas, because that helped the gun man placed in a location with his guns pointing to the ground achieved his target with much ease. Only a lunatic can kill people like that without a traceable motive. He is described as a retired rich accountant, a loner and a gambler.
When 49 people were killed in Orlando, many of the the people killed on Monday in Las Vegas may have mourned and the same would have applied when 22 were people killed in Manchester. Unaware that the pendulum will swing to Las vegas through an unconfirmed deranged retired rich accountant.
