Happy Xmas from my home
December 24, 2020 By Abiodun Giwa
It is another Christmas celebrations. As usual, the most important thing at this time is to be alive, while the fierce struggle to beat the Covid-19 is intense. There is a need to accept the fact that none of us is better than those who have fallen victim to the pandemic, and that the only difference between us and them who have departed is that we are in different holes.
Our own hole is our homes. The hole for those who have departed is no longer here. It is the reason that many of us who are lucky to be here in our holes called homes are thanking God that we have not been abruptly forced away against our will by this circumstances beyond human control.
No one wants to be forced to stay home and not go out. At the same time, no one wants to go out carelessly to avoid fallen victim to Covid-19. When you are out there, you are mandated to wear a mask and keep six feet apart. But despite wearing the mask and keeping six feet apart, people are still getting the virus and people are still dying.
There are fears of a renewed lockdown all over the world following the sudden rise of the virus spread and the news of a new strain of the virus reportedly confirmed in the United Kingdom. Consequently, Christmas celebration is being scaled back from Italy to Bethlehem and in other places that normally experience Christmas merriment.
Lucky to be here for the Christmas and trudging towards the new year hoping to be alive in the new year and beyond. Let us cheer up with wishes for Happy Christmas from our homes, knowing fully well that we live in the most abnormal times, and that surviving this abnormality into a new year is a brave act.
Remain brave. Don't let down your guard against the virus. Be happy. Eat such foods that will help your immunity against this human life and economy destroyer. Continue to use the mask and keep six feet distance. Remember that the virus is fighting back against the discovery of vaccination and still looking for people to kill.
Or how would one describe the virus development of a new strain? Isn't it a case of the virus manipulating us to trap as many people as possible for into its sad history? The reason we must be alert and be one of those making a comeback during the pandemic just like I am doing now. It is great to be alive in the pandemic. It will be greater to be alive after the pandemic and be a witness to human life after the pandemic. Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year, in advance.
