Hofstra University's softball team defeated University of Delaware 8-1 penultimate Wednesday night at Hofstra's Softball field in Hempstead, New York. The Hofstra's team called 'The Pride' showed mastery of the game against the Hornets of Delaware drubbed in the 4th inning with Hosfra's seven runs and Taylor Pirone's 5-3 win.
When asked how she felt about her team's victory over the Hornets, "Great," the Pride's Chloe Fitzgerald said, and quickly added, "We have been struggling a little bit. It definitely pays off."
The game began with Taylor pitching for the Pride in the first inning, while Chloe Oro batted for the Hornets. Hofstra's first hit came in the third inning with a strike by Caryn Bailey.
It was clear that Hofstra's batters had a swell of a night of hits that drowned the Hornets. It is still a matter for debate whether it was hard work or home advantage that gave the Pride the edge over the Hornets.
"Finally, we get that home fielding advantage. Playing at home is very big for us. So for us to finally get a game on our home field was big tonight," Coach Bill Edwards said at a post game conference.
There is no word that better describes Edward's excitement than his expression, "Hitting is contagious.' The same expression was also uttered by Fitzgerald in her statement to reporters, amplifying the importance of hits in softball.
The coach said further that when the Pride got the big ball out, everything have to fall in and that it is what the team has been doing where they have been having the balls. In the coach own words, "there was pressure, squeezing of the bat, attempts to tee off on the swing and feeling of a little bit of relaxation for his team's handling of the pressure from the game. "Bad pitches or swinging bad pitches get you better results and that is what we have been doing."
Although, the Hornets lost, but they cheered and cheered, with little to show that they were losing. But the figures were grim for Vanessa Ciocatto 6-4 loss with 1 home runs that signified a considerable loss for the Hornets.
If Hofstra struggled a little bit with victory to show for it, the Delaware Hornets struggled and cheered all night with almost nothing to show for it.
Some spectators said that the two teams exhibited strength and both deserved praises coming out of double header game.
"We are used to it. I definitely think it will help pressure playing a double header game, just playing with each other," Fitzgerald remarked as expression of congratulations rented the air, and her soiled white and stripped pant showed a mark of the battle from the field of play.
