Hofstra's 'Pride' Stops LSU's 'Tigers'

Hofstra University Softball team on Wednesday night defeated the Louisiana State University 5-3, in a second header game at Hofstra Softball pitch in Hempstead. The LSU’s Tigers had earlier won the first header 5-2. The Hofstra’s Pride came into the second header with a show of force, which the Tigers almost subdued, before the seventh inning hit that gave the Pride three runs and stopped the Tiger from the path of victory.
“It was good in the second game to finally say we overcome the adversity, to compete to the very end and on every pitch,” Coach Bill Edwards of Hofstra said, in response to a question about his assessment of the game.
The statistics shows that the Pride has the victory, but the Tigers the momentum. Historically, it is the Pride’s first win over the Tigers since their first encounter in 2000, when the Tigers eliminated the Pride in the NCAA Tournament in Baton Rouge. The Tiger was like about to repeat its winning streak over the Pride at the beginning of the first header… scoring its first, second and third hits and first home run simultaneously in the sixth, seven and eight minutes respectively.
The Tigers continued its superb outing in the second inning with one hit and three runs, obscuring the myth about home ground advantage. The Tigers manifested superiority over the Pride and made the Pride forced a show of its presence in the fifth inning with a hit and two runs.
The Pride came into the second header with more confidence and recorded two hits one after the other in the first inning. But the Tiger was undaunted. It quickly recorded its first hit and followed up with a second hit and first run in fourth inning. The ovation had hardly ended, when the Tigers scored another hit, and then another hit and with a second run.
The Pride also had a hit and two runs in the fourth inning. This game tied with two runs each way, before the Tigers had another hit and maintained an edge over the Pride. The Tiger added another hit in the sixth inning. The ovation was still loud when it added another hit and a run. The Pride returned the hits with three runs from a single hit and changed the game’s statistics to 5-3 runs, putting the Pride ahead of the Tiger through BeccaBigler’s powerful batting.
Coach Edward said that the Pride had the opportunity to win the first game, which it lost to the Tigers. However, he said the Pride did not allow its loss in the first game stand between it and winning the second game. Instead, he said the loss strengthened the team for the second game and the result was the Pride’s first victory over the Tigers.
