India: 24 Students Missing in Water Surge
8 June 2014 By Abi Giwa
24 engineering students from VNR College in Hyderabad have been swept away in water surge, after stepping out of a bus to take photographs.
The BBC reported that the water in River Beas in Kullu valley, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, suddenly surged following release of water from an upstream dam by Larji Power Project, and swept off the students unaware.
Search has been intensified for the missing students, following a protest about lack of warning before the water release.
