Inspiration and Encouragement We Need
January 24 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
"There Shall be showers of blessing:This is the promise of love; There shall be seasons refreshing, sent from the Savior above. Precious reviving again, over the hills and the valleys; Sound of abundance rain, send them upon us, oh Lord. Grant us now a refreshing. Come now, and honor your word."
The lines are from the work of Daniel Whittle "There Shall Be Showers of Blessing" written in 1883, but which has become all the time and universal song rendered in Churches across the world.
People who attend Church services know that Christians love this song for its impartation of love and blessing. No one wants a shower of curses and that with love the Lord has promised blessing, and the singer asks Him to honor his word.
Whittle has long gone the way of humans after expiration of time here, but his song remains everlasting, refreshing the soul and means to open the door for refreshing that we need. This song is still relevant today as on the of President Donald Trump's inauguration's showers.
"When is Trump's inauguration?" A wife asked her husband on Thursday, prior to the inauguration.
"The inauguration should be tomorrow," the husband said.
"Tomorrow?" The wife asked in response, and added, "But it will rain tomorrow."
"Yes, there is rain in the weather report for tomorrow.," the husband said.
"I am sure that the rain will be showers of blessing. And that man's time as president (reference to President Trump) will be good for Americans. But there is no way they can know, and it is many of them are protesting against him, because they don't know what God may have in store for the country."
"Many of these people protesting either don't know about God as you do or they know God but they don't believe as you do."
The showers have not seized completely since the presidential inauguration day. Gusty wind began on Monday and followed by yet another round of rain on Monday afternoon. It is still raining as I write.
There shall be showers of blessing, send them upon us oh Lord, if we but trust and obey, there shall be seasons refreshing, if we let God have His way." How do we know that God has his way? After the scrutiny of the photographs of the inauguration, there was a discovery that Melania Trump, the First Lady, held two Bibles, which were used for the inauguration.
Without necessarily embarking on further investigation, it emerged in the news reports that the second Bible, not the George Washington's Bible, was a Bible that Trump's mother gave to him in 1955, 61 years ago and two days to his ninth birthday, the New York Times reported. And he had kept the Bible ever since? And who, by knowing this, will say God has not a hand in Trump's ascent?
Perhaps the billionaire politicians, who secretly finance protests around the country, to undo what God has done. This brings us to the nature of protests and whether the rich are right to pay people to go on protests, as people are debating, following the avalanche of protests, prior to and after the inauguration, that many of the protesters have been paid. Can it be true, and is it acceptable to hire people to go on protests?
Christians will look at it the other way and say that when the Israelites were heading to the promised land, they encountered massive opposition, but that they overcame them all. Jimmy Cliff also sang about precious victory in "The Harder They Come", in the line "You Can Get It If You Really Want." He sings that persecution and opposition will come your way, but that you will succeed at last. And that the harder the battle you see, the sweeter the victory.
