27 people, 20 of them children, died today and scores wounded, in a shooting
incidence at a Connecticut elementary school, law enforcement
confirmed.
Lt. Paul Vance, Connecticut Police spokesman, said in a televised press conference
that the gun man was dead. He took his own life.
A weapon was reportedly recovered at the scene in Bandy Hook Elementary School,
Newtown, Conn. "It is obviously very tragic," a Los Angeles Times report quoted an FBI
special agent in the state. Reports said the gun man identified as Adam Lanza was in
his 20s, had an argument with the school's principal, first shot some of the staffers and
moved into a classroom his gun blazing.
President Barack Obama was visibly shaken by the incident and wiped tears from
corners of his eyes, when he addressed the press over the shooting to death of innocent
children, who went to school for learning but met with hard fate."We all have to come
together and take meaningful action regardless of the politics", the president said.
Apart from adults and children killed by the gun man, scores were wounded and rushed
to an hospital.
Additional reports said that the gun man's mother, earlier said to be a teacher at Sandy
Hook Elementary School but later disapproved was also a victim, killed in her home
before the gun man went to the school for more killings.
However, reports in the Fox News said there was a connection between the killer's
mother and the school, the school's principal and the psychologist. The mother was
reported to have made efforts in a court seeking mandate to commit the killer to a
psychiatric home, and that the killer feared he would be sent away.
