Kenya: Murder of Electoral Officer Raises Questions and Fears
July 31 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
The apparent murder of Chris Msando, an electoral officer with Kenya's Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commissions, I.E.B.C, eight days to the country's general elections has raised questions and fears, among Kenyans observers of the country's politics.
Msando, said to be the officer expected to announce election results early was said to have been declared missing on Saturday, and his body later discovered in a morgue three days later.
With his death, a family, a clan and a nation have been thrown into mourning, with fears hanging over the country about the likely outcome of the next election and question as to who are Msando's killers.
Kenya's Daily Nation reported that the body of Mr Msando, stripped to his underwear, was identified on Monday at City Mortuary, three days after he was reported missing. His left arm appeared broken and he had wounds.
Prior to that last election that brought President Uhuru Kenyatta into office, about 1000 Kenyans were reportedly killed in election violence. Meanwhile, America's FBI and and Britain's Scotland Yard may have offered to help in the investigations into Msando's murder.
