' Lessons from Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses' Holiday Market
December 9 2016 By Abiodun Giwa
It is termed 'Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses' Holiday Market', and held on Thursday, at the company's headquarters, Downtown Manhattan, New York City.
The market witnessed the gathering of small businesses and their personnel, from around the country, and they showcased their products and services.
And that were not all that the market did. As a market, it displayed the full potential of a market, where the company's employees and visitors bought and made orders for goods and services that appealed to them.
One major lesson that the market offered was that it showed various businesses' directors and managers, practically at work in the public glare, showing what they hitherto did behind the coffers and wall of their respective offices and shops..
Witnesses talk about acts of friendliness and smiles from men and women that attended to buyers in most of the desks as something only good salesmen can cultivate. They say that it shows that to be a successful business person, one must first of all have what it takes to be a successful sales personnel with friendly disposition, attention to organization, attend to customers no matter - how busy you are - and to not make the customer(s) feel neglected.
To some, it is noted these attrubutes can come naturally, while others have to learn them. Other questions that this reporter asked and that he tried to obtain answers are: What qusalifies a company to belong to the Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses? What incentives are available to member companies? What motivated the organizers to have the small business group and for the annual holiday market, which has become part of the operations and relationship between the organizers and member companies? Is there any difference in the composition of small businesses in the Goldman Sach's 10,000 Small Businesses and the composition and qualification for small businesses nationally?
Two companies of the lots at the 2016 Goldman Sachs' 10,000 Small Businesses' Holiday Market came into the reporter's attention: The first is Pongopower that has on display such statement as The Gift of Health, Learn Pain Relief Techniques, Relief Muscles Stiffness, Take Charge of Your Life and Brooklyn I Love You, Self Mastery Become Your True Self, Find Joy in Life and Create New Patterns and Behavior.
The second company is called Golondrina, a producer of dresses for women and has two women on the stand, who are excellent sales persons with the way they dress and with samples of the dresses they have on display. One dress in particular on display is the type that leaves the shoulders open, which women love to wear partying.
Brisk sales were made. Brisk orders were placed. People came before the desks without bags and left holding bags, and at times in both hands. Having or seeing custoners before them adds to the radiating joy dsiplayed by the sales teams at each of the desks. It was crowded and justification for the businesses in attendance and the customers are heard making nice remarks about proiducts on display.
And Coming: "What Makes Up Small Businesses or What Qualifies Business to be Small?".
