Loss of Love and Damning Acts
20 June 2014. By Abi Giwa
What is terror, if one fellow using a knife to kill another fellow isn't? And what is terror if the hacking of two children with a knife isn't? What is terror if a man hacking his own girlfriend with an axe isn't?
Now, humans live in a world of two terrors, one new and the other as old as human race, but both have same definition - terrifying people at their receiving end.
Deranged religion extremists declaration of war against the civilized world is a new terror, while the old terror's loss of reason and descending on the innocent remains hidden and fatal enough to do damage to recipients.
We clamor against the damage of gun usage by those who should have no gun, yet it is hardly considered or classified as a terror.
Before the arrival of religious extremists with guns and bombs, a behavior by anyone using a gun, a knife, an axe or bomb to kill another in peace time will be nothing short of terrorism.
What is happening today is that you can be eating your breakfast in the coolness of your library, and the enemy will deliver a bomb. Now, the killing of one soul with a bomb, a gun, a knife or an axe is not defined as terror, unless it has religion connotation or links with known terror organizations.
New York City residents are still reeling from the pain of a mad guy who sliced two young children with a kitchen knife in a housing project elevator. As if to confirm that knife is another dangerous weapon that people carry as 'a weapon for self-defense', another incidence of a 14 years old boy killing a boy of same age in a school brawl comes with a blow in the news on Thursday. Read the news for the 14 years old wielding a knife and you will wonder why a kid should go to school with a knife at all.
Just last week, a piece of news from South Africa was about a man who hacked his pregnant girlfriend to death with an axe, without even an iota of love for his baby in the woman's womb. Terrorism isn't a new development in human society, it has its foundation in the biblical times, when Cain hacked Abel to death, because according to the Bible story, Abel found favor in the sight of God, while Cain didn't.
A knife is as dangerous as a gun. When it is pressed hard on a victim's abdomen, the chance of survival is slim. People working retail security in the cities say that what they are scared about most are shoplifters who come into store with a sharp knife concealed under the jacket.
Yet not many store security guards have been heard attacked with a knife, but they will still tell you the reason many young people go about with a knife Is for self-defense, because there are many mad people on the street than there are sane fellows, and which is to say that we live in a time of hyper-terrorism and fear.
The fear of religious extremists. The fear that madmen may accost our children in the elevator with a knife; and the fear that something can just go wrong and a man will resort to the axe against his wife and a child in the womb to end their lives. And the love between a man and a woman does not mean that the man or the woman cannot have a cause along the line to precipitate violence against one another.
Love and hate are like twins traveling together. The first breeds peace and good neighborliness, while the second breeds hate and the consequence is blood chilling: Loss of Love and Damning Acts caused by inconstant emotion.
