Manigault-Newman and the sour grape
August 17 2018 By Abiodun Giwa
Reading an article by Juliette Kayyem, captioned 'Why Omarosa secret recording is an alarm bell' in the CNN, echoes the knowledge acquired in college about recording of anyone, without prior notice and approval.
Obviously, the Kayyem's article is about Omarosa Manigault-Newman, former director of communication for the office of Public Liaison, and her illegal act of secret recording.
Kayyem writes that the only qualification that Manigault used for her employment in the White House is her connection to President Donald Trump. I disagree, because Manigault-Newman is well qualified academically. for the position she lost in the White House, aside from her connection to the president.
Manigault-Newman is a holder of a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Central State University, Ohio, according to reports. Reports also says she has a master’s degree from Howard University. Additionally, she worked toward a doctorate, but she did not finish. How on earth will anyone say that someone with these academical qualifications has got a job with any other connection unconnected with her academic achievement?
Of course, working in the Trump's White House is not Manigault-Newman's first job in the government house. Information about her in Wikipedia says that she has worked in the past in the Vice President Al Gore's office in the Bill Clinton's administration. Anyone who has worked in Al Gore's office preceding a job in the Trump's White House in addition to verifiable college degrees, will have the experience to tout and the type that employers of labor are looking for. And if Manigault-Newman got employment in the Clinton's administration, why wouldn't she in the Trump's administration?
However, the only omission or mistake in Trump's White House in hiring Manigault-Newmam is that despite her work experience, she has a flawed past, which should have disqualified her. It is not known whether she got the pass due to her positive role for the Trump's campaign, in addition to her academic qualification.
Anyone in Trump's shoes will favor Manigault-Newman the same way that Trump has done for her. It is about one good turn deserving another. Many people consider Manigault-Newman as fortunate, for having established the connection with Trump with a robust campaign for Trump, when trump needed it. It is why her current negative role is confounding to observers among Trump's supporters and adversaries.
Manigault Newman has accused the president of being a racist, because according to her, she has knowledge of a tape in which Trump has used an 'N' word, during his Apprentice television program days. Ironically, she is not even sure if such a tape exists. Her claim lacks verification.
It is why people are saying that if indeed Manigault Newman wants to convince the world that she is not the fellow in need of psychiatric examination, a charge she has leveled against Trump, why has she campaigned for Trump to be president, instead of exposing his racism as she has alleged, in time to keep him away from the White House? Why does Manigault-Newman think she has to take employment after positive campaign for Trump, but only to become a turncoat after losing her job in the White House before exposing an alleged wrong she thinks should have disqualified Trump from the White House?
No one will ever think that a person of Manigault Newman’s positive disposition towards Trump will embark on taping all her conversations in the White House without that something negative has occurred to her senses, having been apparent that she has been taping conversations before her eventual firing by John Kelly. And according to news reports, she has said she has about 200 tapes!
We still are unaware the reason for her firing, which may likely be for suspicion of security violations, but yet to be explained by the White House. However, if her firing is for undisclosed security breach or violation, such act may have occurred for lack of active presence of paid security personnel to do their work, and the likely result of the feud between Trump and the FBI. No one will blame Trump for the security risks. Based on what the public has known so far about the acts of some of serving FBI officers, and some of who have lost their jobs following investigations by the Congress, there is a need to place trusted officials in charge the White House security.
Finally, if Manigault-Newman was sacked in Al Gore's office during President Bill Clinton's administration according to Wikipedia, due to what Gore's former office administrator Mary Margaret Overbey described as the worst hire ever made and another officer said she was unqualified, then it is as good as referring to her tapes as sour grapes.
