We live in a world of mysteries. An event of last Sunday in the month of September when two parachuters landed in a part of New York City and disappeared confirmed it. As if that was not enough, a little boy was reported to have boarded a Delta flight from Minneapolis to Las Vegas without any document and identification. and no one knew he know how he got into the aircraft. There was also the news published by Vanguard Newspapers of a teenager in Nigeria who hid in a wheel compartment of an aircraft, flew from Benin City to Lagos, and no one had been able to decipher how the boy got the idea.
Words about tighter security began making their rounds around Battery Park City in New York last weekend. Door men appeared in buildings that lacked them earlier. People spoke in what was near silence to keep the discussion to themselves that two men parachuted from no where one has been able to determine, landed between Vesey Street's side of Goldman Sachs building and the adjacent Conrad Hotel. The two men, after they landed, packed their parachutes and vanished into the thin air.
The first newspaper report accessible on the matter appeared in the Daily News of Monday at about 1.00 pm. Ray Kelly, New York's Police Commissioner, confirmed the story. The Police Commissioner said the two men walked away from the camera and vanished. No one knows who they are; where they may have flown from, and people are asking whether they may have flown from one of the high rise buildings in the area or from an aircraft.
One was still thinking about the parachuters who reportedly disappeared and the security risk, when another news emerged on a television news last report about the nine years-old boy who may have magically outmaneuvered airport security, and got into an aircraft and flew from Minneapolis to Las Vegas. According to the Mirror News online, a nine years-old boy skipped school and flew to Las Vegas - without a ticket!
These are mysteries no can fathom any information about how they happened. There are also mysteries of happenings that we see but cannot explain why they happen and why they are unavoidable.
Last week, a woman drove and put security men in Washington DC at their wits end. Pictures showed about five men pulled their guns against a car said to have been driven by a female driver on a road rage. The driver reportedly hit the barricades in the White House, turned off and drove towards the Capitol building, where she hit another hard object. The Daily Caller reported that the head of the secret service said that the woman after hitting the barricades in the White House also wanted to drive pass two security posts in the capitol and then the fatal shot that silenced her.
People are asking whether shooting to deflate the woman's car tyre would not have done a better job than shooting the poor woman to death. The head of the secret service had not said whether the woman was armed or not. He said that investigation is continuing. Some members of the public interviewed by Global Pentorch said that protocol allowed what the officers did.
Happily, the killed woman's sister, whose job is related to law enforcement has spoken to the Daily News in New York. She said what the police should have done rather than the application of the deadly force. People say it is more touching that it happens to a woman with a one year old child in the car.
It is still a mystery and part of the mysteries people live everyday why America's leadership are playing politics, allowing government shutdown to continue to drag indefinitely without anyone showing leadership.
You may also have heard about the EU's decision to detain survivors of Lampedusa boat wreck for investigation over clandestine immigration, and if found guilty they may face fine or imprisonment. This is said to be applicable to an immigration law passed in 2000 aimed at discouraging immigration into Europe. Yet, the Italian premier has declared the dead as automatic citizens of Italy. Does this mean the Italian government loves the dead than the living? Is not the survivors that really need help now?
