NBA's Hauling of Sterling
30 April 2014 By Abi Giwa

Tuesdays afternoon's National Basketball Association's life ban on the owner of Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling, with a $2.5 million fine came like a thunderbolt. It immediately became the talk of the town. The NBA commissioner Adam Silver's vow to also ensure removal of Sterling from ownership of his club in addition to life ban and a fine immediately led to mixed reactions. Some people say the NBA's decision is appropriate and others say otherwise.
“I don’t know much about that situation now. Yes and No. Because I mean he does have First Amendment. I think it is definitely an issue that you have to consider own rights too,” Ariana Poroforio said.
Professor Joann said, “There must be a repercussion for such a statement that is above board. The issue has been in the public for some time. I think it is appropriate there is a repercussion.”
One guy at a university's Law Department library says, “Banning him for life? At the end of the day, the NBA is mostly a black association.” He was cut short by a man who said the reporter could not come into the library for a survey.
Many people expressed knowledge of the development that led to the NBA's decision against Sterling, while other said expressed ignorance of the issues involved and refrained from making comments. There are many others who said they were interested in making comment on the issue despite knowing issues that were involved.
Anything about racism and its repercussions are testy here in the United States and people try to avoid them. Many people say that if Sterling had known what repercussion would follow h the statement, he would have avoid it.
Sterling was reported by the TMZ to have told an ex-girlfriend in a recorded statement that she should not their put their photograph in the Instagram; expressed dismay over her publicizing to be seeing with black men and told her not to bring them to his game.
Magic Johnson's name came came into the melee as one of those Sterling did not want to see coming to his game because of his skin's color. Johnson quickly condemned Sterling's statement in a twitter message and announced never to attend Sterling's game again.
Sterling has not responded to his ban, fine and a plan to throw him out of ownership of his club; a decision some people have hailed as appropriate and others see as a sledge hammer too hard.
