Going into a New Year
With Uncertainty

Transiting from one year into another is an annual ritual. Some people care so
much about it, while others don't give a damn. It is manifest that whatever view
people hold about a new year transition depends either on culture, country or
social background.
With another transition here, some are going about their business and giving
no thought there would be a difference between the outgoing calendar year
and the incoming year and have no business with new year resolutions. on the
other hand, some are already making resolutions toward ensuring a change in
their lives in the coming year.
Celebration
Some will celebrate success in business or other endeavors, others will be
thankng their stars for being alive, and for not being in a wrong place at the
wrong time.
While some will have to summon strength to accept experiences they would
have avoided like untimely death to family members and failure in other areas
of their lives.
In celebrating successes, some will troop to the churches to give thanks to
God and others will be in clubs or house parties, to dance and express joy with
like minds. New York's Times Square annual New Year Eve party and other
such celebrations will hold across the world. The ball will drop at 12.00
midnight to welcome a new year, no matter what is happening.
Prayer
Since no one has power over the distribution of fortune and misfortune,
will pray either in their homes or worship center, either outwardly or in solitude.
Some people believe that one don't have to be religious to pray, and prayer is
a thought and a wish communicated to either oneself or a power one believes
and accept as God. People will make their wishes and still leave everything to
either chances or God, because no one has power to conjure or make wishes
come true.
Uncertainty
Uncertain of what the new year will bring, people will still go into it, hoping for
the best. The economic Armageddon in Europe and the fiscal cliff in the United
States, many Third World leaders' self-centeredness, lack of foresight and man
inhumanity to man that has become an order, can be a jolly ride for those who
are alive.
For those who are dying, or will die, and those who have lost relations, there is
a consolation in the words of the scripture that to die is gain, like John Donne
writes in Death, Be Not Proud. And believing thus, we shall all say, "Happy New
Year".
