Nigerian leaders stealing oil blocs?
June 13 2016 By Abiodun Giwa
Oil blocs belong to the Nigerian State. And whatever belongs to the Nigerian State belongs Nigerians. Nigerian leaders cannot do whatever they like with what belongs to the country without the approval of Nigerians.
But information about past acts of Nigerian leaders is that they share the oil blocs that belong Nigerians among themselves and their friends, and in the way they want, without recourse to seek the approval of Nigerian.
Of course, if these leaders seek Nigerians' approval, they are sure not to get it. Therefore, they have for a long time resorted to stealing what does not belong to them. A confirmation of this illegal act has been confirmed by a publication in the Premium Times of Monday, June 13, 2016.
In the said publication, Ibe Kachikwu, the minister of state in the petroleum ministry said that President Muhammed Buhari has not allocated any oil bloc and that whenever President Buhari will allocate any oil bloc, he will follow laid down rules! What laid rules are there for any leader to steal what belongs to the people are stated.
“Since we came into office, the government has not allocated any oil bloc. The president has said that he will need to correct the mess created by the past administrations before we begin to think of giving out such advantages. “The president has emphasized to us the ministers that there should be no unjustifiable favor and any action we take we must be able to defend it. When the time for the oil bloc allocation comes, it will follow very clear due process." These are Kachkwu's words. He did not explain the due process about leaders stealing what does not belong to them.
Kachikwu was speaking to people in the South South region of the country, concerning the development of the area and the need to develop the area, for the benefit of the people, against past acts of development that benefited individuals at the expense of ordinary Nigerians. But the statement that the government will embark on allocations to people with managerial skill and the money for the business at the appropriate time should irk every Nigerian. This is not only disturbing that the minister has not said that the government will do away with such illegal allocation, which has been hideous in the past, but that the government will follow due process.
I have said it in one of my writings on illegal sharing of oil blocs by Nigerian leaders and that I don't trust that Buhari too, having been a petroleum minister in the past has not been involve in oil bloc allocation. How many oil blocs allocation has Ibrahim Babangida and his friends? How many oil blocs allocation has Olusegun Obasanjo and his friends? How many oil blocs allocation has Abdulsalam Abubakar and his friends? oil blocs allocation has Theophilus Danjuma and his friends? How many oil blocs allocation has all the dirty rich Nigerians who are the wedge between appropriate government for Nigeria and the continuity of the evil past in the country? How many oil blocs did Buhari gave away as oil minister?
Can Kachikwu present the due process for sharing oil blocs, which he refers in his statement for Nigerians to see? How many oil blocs has Kachikwu himself? The illegal allocation of blocs is the foundation of emergency millionaires in Nigeria at the expense of the country's development. This is the reason militants in the Delta Region of the country have given for their militancy - to get back oil money to the people and for the development of the area that produces the oil. Are not they right? There is too much poverty in Nigeria enough for anyone to ask about what are these leaders using the Nigerian oil money for.
Even, people outside Nigeria ask about what Nigerian leaders use Nigerian oil money for, with mass of Nigerians outside the country running from poverty at home and struggling for survival. Kachikwu must explain to the world the due process of sharing oil blocs. If this process is not legal, it may be the beginning by Nigerians to begin to ask all those illegally with their oil blocs to surrender such blocs back to Nigerians.
