The process was in place on Monday heralding arrival of workers in the Phase 2 reopening in the North East of the United States involving a continuous testing of temperature level aside from earlier online survey as part of certification of good health. Workers returned to confront a new way of accessing buildings towards safety of workers and customers.
"It is like going through the boarding process and security check at the airport. It is a complete transformation compared to what people are used to. It is not a big deal, because it is safe-guarding lives against Covid-19," one respondent to a reporter's question said.
It is gathered that the process will continue on daily basis as many workers returned to work thanking God for being alive, and hoping their return to work will be permanent and don't expect to see another lock down, despite news reports about the increase in the number of people currently testing positive to Covid-19 around the country.
The most important discussion among workers is being alive and hoping to remain alive neighborhood streets in commercial areas suddenly returning to beehives of activities - ending months long of silence and grave like situation caused by the lock down to protect and save lives in the community.
A news report by the Wall Street Journal captioned Back to School With Covid-19 Rules: Temperature Checks, Few Sports and Lots of Distance, catches the picture of returning to work and school programs across the U.S. and other parts of the world,
marking the arrival of the long awaited expectations in every household around the world.
The process of returning to work and school reminds all of how it all started early February when people in the U.S. learned about Covid-19 outbreak in China, followed by announcement by President Donald Trump banning travels from China and later from Europe.
The struggle to beat Covid-19 witnessed struggles by developed countries working to improve health care facilities and enhance capacity, and making adequate Personal Protective Equipment,PPE, available for health care workers as front line workers combating the virus. Obviously, Covid-19 posed a worldwide health scare, and the reason it was declared a pandemic by the World health Organization, WHO.
There debate about WHO's handling of Covid-19 crisis and China's decision to not release information about what the country knows of about the outbreak of the virus in China is still fresh. Curious observers have been highly critical of WHO's decision not to ban traveling to and from China at the early stage of the outbreak and organization's announcement that the virus was not transferable from person to person before it later changed its stance.
The U.S. has suffered the highest casualties from Covid-19 with 123,000 deaths, followed by Brazil 51,502, United Kingdom 42,927, Italy 34,657, France 290,720, Spain 28,324 and Mexico 22,000 based on Covid-19 worldwide statistics. It is noted that countries from Africa have suffered the least number of deaths. Asian countries are also not seriously affected aside from China that suffered about 8000 deaths .Returning to work after a great loss of lives to the virus does not mean an end of the virus scare and uncertainty, because the virus is still much in the air, and people are advised to continue with social distancing and the use of face mask.
However, it is believed that there is now adequate infrastructure in place to avoid mass deaths from Covid-19 against an earlier unprepared health sector with lack of PPE, and countries that lacked testing and contact tracing. Meanwhile, the world is also debating and anticipating a possible vaccine breakthrough..
