Russians again! Democrats were wrong the first time. Can they be right now?
June 29 2020 By Abiodun Giwa
Why are some American politicians afraid of Russians? Is it because Russians are capable of using the social media to influence elections and policies in the country? Do not Americans influence policies and elections in other countries and boast about the goodness derivable from Democracy and the reason America foists friendship with countries that embrace freedom?
These questions have become necessary because it seems anytime that Russians cough,, some American politicians catch cold. The first most pronounced time this happened was over the 2016 elections, when Russians according to Bob Mueller investigations, influenced the elections. but without collusion with any known American or American entity, against widespread allegations by Democrats that there was collusion between the Donald Trump Campaign and the Russians.
The New York Times has reported that the Russians have put bounty on American soldiers for the Americans to be eliminated by the Talibans. The president said he was not informed by the nation's intelligence about the so called bounty on American soldiers by the Russians, and nor had the Vice President Mike Pence been informed about the development. But before the ink could dry on the New York Times' report, the Democrats have gone all over town condemning the president and his administration.
Nancy Pelosi has quickly jumped on the bandwagon of the report without clarification of the president's position and intelligence community's position. She said there must be something going on between the Russians and Trump that requires investigation. Of course, one Republican, Jason Chafetz has been quick to call Pelosi out during a Fox News discussion saying, "Shame on you Pelosi!" because according to him, he cannot understand the reason behind Pelosi's outburst and for her making the statement credited to her.
Did you watch Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's interview on this issue with Neil Cavuto also on the Fox News? How can anyone in his or her right senses be saying the president is too comfortable with Russians? Too comfortable with Russians for bombing Syria when Syria overstepped its bounds killing its own people, despite Russia's involvement and support for Syria? Cavuto asked Gillibrand about what happens in a situation where the intelligence thinks the matter has not reached a level to inform the president? Gillibrand explains it is why they are calling for investigation.
Why don't they have any other way of resolving issues than instigation they call investigation? The president has said no one has informed him and the vice president of a development about Russians making a bounties on Americans soldiers in Afghanistan. The vice president has not denied the president's statement, and nor has any one in the intelligence or the administration come forward to prove that the president and the vice president has been informed of the development.
Some members of the Republican Party attended a briefing on the matter on Monday. They came out and said there is a conflict in the intelligence over the veracity of the matter. They said the intelligence needs to verification of its truthness or otherwise of the allegation, and that if it is true America should take a serious action against Russia. On Tuesday, some Democrats were briefed the White House staff on the matter. One of the Democrats said after the briefing that the issue is an allegation. They demanded they will like to hear from the intelligence community and not the White House staff. However, no one has said whether the New York Times has the right to obtain and publish an intelligence without a formal clearance from the intelligence community.
Professionally and ethically, the media has the freedom to obtain information and publish the information so long it has national interest..It is another thing for the editor to verify if the president and the vice president has been given the information before going ahead to publish the information but because the publication was intended really hurt the president, suc verification was thought unnecessary. It is another thing for the intelligence community to show whether anyone in the community has the right to give such information to the media before giving it to the president and the vice president. If the matter has not been given to the president and the vice president have not been briefed by the intelligence community, the leaker does the intelligence community a disservice capable of leading to distrust of the community. Of course, the New York Times would not reveal the source of the information. And it was reported the president was later briefed on the matter after the New York Times publication.
Democrats' problem with Russia is that the Russians influenced the last elections in its disfavor. Only the Russians can explain the reasons for their acts. They did not collude with any American. Mueller had told the nation that much. And there can be no collusion between Russians and any American for any bounty on American soldiers' lives in Afghanistan. Wasting money on useless investigations that don't add to our health and goodness must stop. We all know how much of our tax money went into the Mueller Investigation. The Black Community and other minorities need attention to help them catch up with the majority.
Pelosi's job is to cooperate and work with the president. Verify issues and have a sound moral ground before expressing disagreement. If true or not that Russians have indeed placed bounties on American soldiers' lives in Afghanistan, the president and the speaker can decide on appropriate measure against Russia. It is for the disagreement based on party differences instead of moral reasons that made the administration kept the elimination of the top Iranian without the speaker's knowledge of the plan. Whether true or not bounties have been placed on American soldiers, the White House and the House must cooperate to begin to bring American soldiers home from Afghanistan since there is no major war in the country.
Americans cannot continue to police Afghanistan especially now that some politicians are asking police across the country to be defunded and scrapped in America. Secondly, the Democrats must realize that having failed the first time by negatively tying Trump to the Russians, there is nothing on the ground to show they will succeed this time around.
