Sambisa Forest In The News Again
July 23 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
Sambisa Forest first came into the news with the evil Boko Haram of Nigeria's escapades. The forest was home to the terror group and the place they took their captives. The forest became more popular with the kidnap of the Chibok school girls, who forcibly became guests to the terrorists.
The fight over the control of Sambisa Forest took a long time between the Nigerian forces and the terrorists. At a time, many observers said that Nigeria would need to take total control of the forest to nip the terrorists operations in the bud.
Nigerian armed forces have tried to kill Boko Haram and at t time obserers think that the armed forces have taken control of the evil forest and that the terrorists are no longer there. But recent news of occasional attacks by the terrorists against Nigerians in that part of the world have shown the case to be otherwise.
In a recent statement by one of the lucky to have been freed Chibok girls, she said that aside from the Chibok school girls, whose seizure by Bokp Haram made big news and the efforts toward their liberation also a big news, she sais there are many other women still in Boko Haram's camp in the forest, according to a news report by The Punch newspapers.
The freed Chibok school girl told the newspaper that Boko Haram is holding many other girls and describes Sambisa as a forest of sorrow. The Punch reports that the Chibok schoolgirl noted that government was focusing more attention on the release of the abducted schoolgirls, because they were captured inside their college, and that she urged the government to also direct its attention to other girls in Boko Karam captivity because, according to her, “the Sambisa Forest is a place of sorrow.”
Now, roll back your memory on the news of the battle over Sambisa forests, and the question you will ask is whether you are still in your senses about the state of affairs at Sambisa or whether there had been fabrications from most of the news reports about Sambisa in the past - about Nigeria's seizure of the forest.
There had been news about the Nigerian armed forces liberating 1880 women from the terrorists and another 605 women at different times, confirming the Chibok school girl's statement about the fact of many other women in Boko Haram's enclave aside from the Chibok girls, who need liberation. The time between liberation of 1880 and 605 others and the time the freed Chibok school girl spoke about other women still in Sambisa forests shows that many other women are still in there.
There was a news report about the fall of Sambisa. There was a news report about the visit of Muhammad Buhari to a freed Sambisa forest, accompanied by retinue of state officers. Jigawa community lauds Buhari over the capture of Sambisa. Makarfi's PDP hails Buhari for Sambisa's capture.
Sambisa from all indications has become of a forest of millions demons, with power to replicate to continue existence of evil after every overthrow by the Nigerian military, showing the Nigerian military is not in full control of the forest.
