Israelis and the world are bidding final goodbye to Ariel Sharon, Israel's former prime minister at a final burial ceremony in the Negev desert today.
Sharon has been receiving last respects from Sunday where he laid in state in his coffin outside the parliament in Jerusalem.
Regarded as one of the best war commanders in Israel, he fell into comma eight years ago and died last Saturday, January 11, 2014.
Many see him as beloved by Israel, but viewed by Palestinians as an enemy, since he led or championed and supported most of the wars by Israel against the Palestinians.
President Shimon Peres described Sharon as a living military legend who also always had dreams of leave for his country. "Sharon's shoulders" he said, " had borne the weight of the security of our people."
In another tone, Netanyahu sees Sharon's roles in the security of israel as engraved in Israel's history and that his remembrance will forever be part of Israel.
Vice-President Joseph Biden of the United States, one of the important personalities at Sharon's final burial ceremony described him as the north star who considered first the survival of the state of Israel and the Jewish people wherever they resided. He said Sharon lived as a controversial man and in a controversial environment.
