The United Nation's Security Council heard on Monday the result of violent repression of protests and the absence of political agreement towards a transition to civil rule in Sudan. According to a U.N. envoy, the development could cause a worsened economic and humanitarian catastrophe in the country, africanews.EN has reported.
The statement was handed down by Volker Perches, the U.N envoy to Sudan. Perches spoke about the need to begin talks towards a chance of success to end violence, to restore the right to demonstrate, peacefully, ensure the release of political detainees, and ending the military's state of emergency.
The U.N. envoy disclosed to the security council that Sudanese parties the urgency of the matter. Therefore, the next few months regarded as as Moslems month of Ramadan is expected engage stakeholders looking forward to participate in what is now termed a period of peace and and forgiveness.
The reports asserts that Sudan is on a wrong direction, and unless a correction is made to direct the country's affairs towards an acceptable path, the country may be heading towards an insecurity and economic uncertainty. Against this uncalled for scenario that will put the future of Sudan at risk is the aspiration of the Sudanese people for a prosperous, civil governance and democratic future.
Perche expressed concern over increased tension among various security forces which he describes as disturbing. and a development that raises significant worry in several quarters. The dimension is seen as capable of leading to humanitarian suffering, a descent into conflict and divisions like the ones in Libya and Yemen.
He advises that a political solution be pursued because its absence could translate to lawlessness and crime, inter-communal conflicts, and forcing farmers out of their lands by violent attacks, and villages burnt, among other unwanted calamities. Apparently Sudanese people are still demonstrating in favor of civil rule against military rule and accompanying repression.
