The Biden Family Business and Oedipus
2 July 2023 By Abiodun Kareem Giwa
The Biden family business story reminds many college graduates of Oedipus, who lacked the knowledge of his past but wrongly insisted on the claim of righteousness. But he took out his eyes as punishment for the evil he committed against humanity after he confirmed the truth. It is also about stories that the highly placed and the rich also cry. The story of rising from grass to grace is sweet but not so far from falling from grace to grass. People do fall and rise again, making ascension and its opposite part of humanity. The Bible says teach your children the way they should go for you to have peace.
President Joseph Biden has said he does not discuss anything with his son, Hunter, but revelation proves him wrong. The closeness between him and the son also does not support the president's position. Many observers blame the son, while others say the president should have corrected him before things affect him as leader of the world's foremost democracy. Ethicists ask how you fix a child who you don't discuss his business.
President Biden continued his innocence until the bombshell revelation by a Whistleblower about a WhatsApp text message from his son to a highly placed official in China demanding his expectation naming his father as also expecting action on the same issue. Still, the president insists he does not discuss business with Hunter. The turn of events has attracted the legacy media that has distanced itself from discussing the president and son's company to step in. A section of the mainstream is critical of the president and the son in reporting without adding opinion, while others have their opinion standing behind the president.
Anna Navarro says, "The Hunter Biden story, the scandal, the this, the that - it's also the story of a father's love, and Joe Biden has never and will never give up on his son Hunter, and will never treat him lesser than." It exposes Navarro as needing ethics knowledge in Public Administration, where a father's love and upholding the truth in public office are two different issues. The clear topic is that Hunter's activities have endangered his father's position as president, and it should not be a reward for a father's love. Although Hunter's activities date back to Joe's vice president, he should have known as an adult that any misdeed from Hunter could rub on the then-vice president whose drive to be president for a long time is known.
The president eventually achieved the long-time goal of leading, either unaware or ready to distance himself from untoward activities, as cases currently suggest the truth is yet to be known, giving the House investigating the matter the need to get to the truth. Here, Biden's journey as a leader crosses with that of Oedipus. They are in with denials but in different cases. Oedipus helped his nation to conquer dangerous invaders that made life terrible for the people and became king. But another evil surfaced, traced to an act he allegedly committed but lacked knowledge of. He vigorously denied being the cause of the evil in his land, which was true. However, he lost his armor when confronted with the truth, which was undeniable.
President Biden has said he does not discuss business with his son. He had maintained the same statement despite the latest text message that he could likely have been in the room when his son sent the text message, but many are saying there is no proof he was in the room. The matter has heated the polity. Part of the fallout is the House has accused the executive of a two-tier justice system, one for Republicans and one for Democrats. It now threatens Merrick Garland, who also said he has not interfered with Hunter's investigation.
Who is telling the truth between Biden and Garland? The people await to hear the truth about Biden's claim of lack of knowledge of his son's businesses and Garland's equitable justice.
