The changing time and subversion of the process
25 May 2021 By Abiodun Giwa
The scripture is called a good book not for nothing but its enriched contexts. There is a time for everything, a time to be born, get into marriage, and depart from a wicked world. Many people think the world is hell because of the seeming wickedness that rules the world. Discernment is needed to navigate the world successfully to avoid falling into the hands of the power that be and their thugs.
Philosophers before our time have shown that the powers that rule the world are wicked and that these powers would do anything possible to have their ways by crushing objections to their methods. Utopian writers have shown, based on their perception of world events, that the powers in the world are ruthless and others will destroy benefactors to achieve their objectives.
The fierce political struggle has been before these times. Therefore, whatever we are witnessing today between the right and the left is not new but follows the pattern of the deadly struggle to control resources among the ruling elite. It is a situation that requires discernment by the ordinary people about how to navigate the dangerous bends any time the powerful people are at loggerheads overpower so as not to be victims of this struggle.
I discerned not long ago that the world has arrived at such a crossroad. You fear the power-drunk politicians and their thugs. Some politicians are knowledgeable and can exercise restraint, unlike their thugs who know not what is reasonable and unreasonable, what is morally acceptable and what is not, and attitude that amounts to thuggery and one that is not.
The world has witnessed the abandonment of transparency at the altar of power struggle. And there can be no accountability where there is no transparency. Democracy requires transparency. The United States is known for the importation of democracy and openness. One attribute responsible for derailing democracy in many of the Banana Republics worldwide is a lack of respect for transparency and accountability because of the pursuit of satisfying personal and party interests at the expense of the general populace's interest.
Now, the U.S. and China have been accusing one another of a lack of transparency. The U.S. has inadvertently embraced the political process opposite of democracy without transparency. The power in the country is working to change the world at all costs, just like leaders in less developed countries are adept at frustrating the promotion of the people's comfort.
Democracy has a process of identifying problems that require urgent attention. Programs are formulated based on the process. Many African countries and Latino countries have had the process subverted, leading to inactive government programs and people's suffering. Embracing a lack of openness is the least one will expect from a government in a country like the United States.
It is an act of subversion of the process for government leaders to instruct government officials not to talk to the media on important issues of the day no matter what the government is pursuing to achieve. If a news reporter goes out of the way to get the information against the government's position, it will be at tremendous risk to his or her safety. If governance in the U.S. in the 21st Century has tailed down to such a ridiculous level, it may be time for freedom-loving people to begin to search for an alternative freedom-loving country.
Many immigrants in the U.S. today left their countries to come here after the frustration of following their government's attitude of subversion to satisfy a cult-like process that never serves the people's needs.
