The Johns and Their Fights
January 17 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
It is about John Lewis, the United States' Congressman, and The President Elect, Donald John Trump. They are both Johns by coincidence of their names and they are namesakes. And they are both fighters too.
Lewis has fought in the civil rights movement in an era civil of rights, earned a heroic ovation and considered in term of superiority and rank! But not as less privileged.
The other John, the president elect, has vanquished whoever stands up to challenge him and he has become a president elect, when his opponents and the entire world think he is a goner. He has refused to be vanquished.
But John the Congressman does not think that the election of John the president elect is legitimate, without giving a justifiable reason for his comment about what he thinks may have gone wrong with the election of his namesake, other than that the Russians got something to do with it. Therefore, he said he would not be attending John the president elect's inauguration as president.
But John the President Elect has been quick to repudiate John the Congressman's assertion and said the Russians have nothing to do with his election. John the Congressman has said that it will be the first time that he will be skipping presidential inauguration But press reports has shown that John the Congressman once skipped George Bush Jr inauguration. And John the president elect has been quick to call attention of John the Congressman's inconsistency.
John the president elect has not said that John the Congressman lied about the number of times he will be skipping inaugurations. And the side many people have taken in this argument of the Johns depends on the side of the political divide they belong! Many supporters of John the Congressman said that as a hero and person among protesters in 1963 March on Washington, John the president elect ought to have respected for John the congressman's stature and not get back at him for his talk about an illegitimate election.and his announcement about skipping the inauguration.
Supporters of John the president elect think and the same way like the president elect and regard John the Congressman's assertion about an illegitimate election as illegitimate. There are curious observers, who say that although John the Congressman's assertion is outrageous, but has expected the president elect to keep his calm and go through his inauguration before getting back to his detractors. They say the inauguration is the official stamp of legitimacy of his election and it is what his detractors want to ensure does not hold.
And by engaging in unnecessary altercation with them, since they already have plans to skip the inauguration anyway, they all will have reasons for skipping the inauguration in attempt to give it a picture of illegitimacy. They sight the the number of Democratic Party elected officials, who have joined John the Congressman's side to skip the inauguration as want the loss of the election has caused the opposition party's members.
The inauguration will hold anyway and John the President Elect will officially become the 45th president of the United States. But one thing will remain unforgettable about these Johns as fighters. It is about their reminding us of John the Baptist and John the gospel writer. And whether reasonable or unreasonable fight, Johns seem to be naturally born fighters. Not, the congressman is fighting to show he has justification for his utterance and decision to skip the inauguration, while the president elect too has not backeg down
