The snow, the drunken man and reality
March 22 2016 By Abiodun Giwa
The snow begins to come down much later than expected. The weather forecasts had said the snow would begin to come down at 18:00 hrs., but when rain and snow slit began at about 18:00 hrs., there was no accumulation.
Later about 23:45 hrs., the snow began to fall without rain and slit, but It did not fall for so long.
In one of the bus stops in Union City, New Jersey, a man appeared from the blues, and he was dancing on the street and in the snow, while he walked zigzag toward a lone person at the bus stop.
The lone person standing at the bus sensed that the guy who danced and walked zigzag to the bus stop may have been under the influence of alcohol. He was not wrong.
The guy who danced his way to the bus stop said something to the guy he met at the bus stop, but the lone guy at the bus stop did not understand what the dancing guy said. The dancing guy repeated his statement thrice before the guy he met at the bus stop understood that he was saying a bus to Newark was coming.
"I am not going to Newark," the lone guy at bus stop said.
"A bus to Newark is coming," the guy who danced his way to the bus stop said again and again.
"I have told you I am not going to Newark. If you are going to Newark, get into the bus, when the bus arrives."
"See, it is snowing. They said it would snow at 06:00 p.m, but it did begin to snow until almost midnight. This life. Nobody knows anything. He knows. Yes I am drunk but I know this life that no one knows anything. He knows. He is in charge," he said pointing to the sky. "Ha, snow in the Spring!"
"You are right," the lone guy at the bus stop retorted, believing that though the dancing guy may be drunk, but he seemed to be saying things that made sense.
"I am 50. Ha, it is good to be 50. I am coming from the bar. It is why I am dancing. Why would I not dance, when I am happy to be alive at 50. People die everyday. I am not dead but alive. I have come a long way."
As the dancing guy continued his rambling, a bus arrived but it was not the one going to Newark as announced earlier by the dancing guy. It was a bus going to the direction of the lone guy that the dancing guy met at the bus stop. The lone guy hopped into the bus, uncertain whether or not the dancing guy stepped into the same bus.
While in the bus, he remembers what the dancing guy has said that he is 50 and that he is happy to be alive, that it is his nature to be happy and that being 50 only has added to the reason for his joy. What has impressed the lone guy at the bus stop is the mention by the dancing guy about a being who knows everything and that humans know nothing, but that humans tend to want to prove that they know something or know all.
Although, the dancing guy was drunk, but he admitted to the existence of a higher and superior being. A reminder to the lone guy at the bus stop about a proverb that says whatever a man says when he is drunk is the truth as it exists in his consciousness. Many days earlier, the weather had suddenly changed from frigidly cold to what people called summer in the Spring - witnesses many days near and above 70 degrees, before the announcement of snow came with yet a sudden end to the summer in the Spring.
After the snow, the weather became frigidly cold again and people complain everywhere that it too, too cold, enough that if people know what to do to set the weather to what they want, they will not hesitate to do it. Understandably, It is one act about nature that is beyond humans.
