U.S. Immigration Order: Green Card Holders From Affected Countries Free To Travel
January 29 2017 By Abiodun Giwa
Green card holders from countries affected by the United States' new immigration order are free to travel to their countries and return to the U.S.,Reince Preibus, the White House chief of staff said in a statement on Sunday, according to New York Times.
Priebus' clarification came amid what seems like a confusion over the ban's effect on people with valid papers, detained at the airport but later allowed in on the order of a court.
It has been widely believed that permanent residents in the U.S, from countries affected by the ban may not be able to travel and return to the U.S. as they may wish. Though, the New York Times reports describes the clarification from the Whites as a scale back of the provisions of the ban, but some people think that Green Card holders should not have affected in the first place, because they say to ban Green card holders from free travel to their countries of origin could cause emotional distress and spread fears of authoritariansism.
Following the new development, many Green Card holders and observers are relieved of the explanation by government that Green card holders are not affected by the new immigration order.
In another vein, Sir Mo Farah, an Olympic champion, says he is relieved he can return to his U.S. home, because the order will not affect him as a Somalian living in Britain, a news reports by the BBC said.
