US Memorial Weekend's Bliss
26 May 2014 By Abi Giwa
President Barack Obama laid a wreath on Monday at the Tombs of the Unknown at Arlington's National Cemetery, remembering those who gave their lives.
Mayor Bill De Blasio led New Yorkers at a ceremony in Riverside with service men, veterans and family members in attendance.
It is Monday and a memorial day's holiday in the United States; the end of a long weekend bliss away from work, safe those in essential services, eateries and entertainment hubs. It is a weekend eateries and movie theaters are filled to the brim; entertainment with friends and family reunions in the detail, in the beach or anywhere amenable for humans.
The fine Summer weather will make the long weekend hard to forget in a hurry. People are out in shorts; beautiful legs out in seemingly competition of legs and a period for lovers' delight and reverie.
Yesterday was like the first Sunday ever that New Yorkers had the opportunity to adorn themselves in light attires since Winter's end. And today like the Saturday and Sunday before it, the Sun is in full bloom, making it a perfect day to step out and be part of the memorial day's parade.
Time to thank the veterans for their service to the nation, a reflection on the words of Jesus Christ about those who died that their friends may live.
